DHQ Says Troops Rescued 36 Abductees In One Week

The Defence Headquarters says troops rescued 36 abducted persons and killed several terrorists during operations carried out across the country between August 31 and September 3.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, said the operations targeted terrorists, kidnappers, arms traffickers, criminal networks and secessionist groups in different theatres.

In the North-East, troops under Operation Hadin Kai continued operations in Borno and Yobe, including action around the Miyanti-Banki Junction route in Bama. The military said troops recovered a rifle, ammunition and an IED initiator after one of the encounters.

The DHQ update also covered wider military activity against kidnapping and arms networks. Both reports carried the same headline figures on the rescued abductees and the neutralised terrorist leaders.

The casualty and rescue figures were reported as part of the military briefing.
