NSCDC Arrests Personnel Over Alleged Sale Of Service Rifles
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps says it has arrested personnel over the alleged diversion and sale of service rifles, including an AK-47 traced to Otukpo in Benue State.
NSCDC spokesman Babawale Afolabi said the investigation was carried out by the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad, led by Dandaura Appollos.
Afolabi said one unnamed personnel member allegedly removed an AK-47 rifle from his post after duty, concealed it in two polythene bags and moved it to Otukpo instead of returning it to the armoury.
He said investigators found that the rifle was allegedly delivered under a prior arrangement for N700,000 and later resold to another buyer for N800,000. The corps said the AK-47 was recovered after tracking, surveillance and interrogation.
The NSCDC said it also uncovered another case involving two missing rifles and that disciplinary and criminal processes would follow the investigation.
