Police in Anambra State have begun a manhunt after two people were shot dead at separate locations in Awka, the state capital, on Sunday.

One of the victims was identified in reports as Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza, a mobile advertiser and media personality in the city. Police had not publicly named the second victim.

The state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary information showed that three unidentified people in a silver Toyota Corolla opened fire at the victims in separate parts of Awka. Vanguard reported that the bodies were found along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo.

Police said patrol teams were sent to the affected areas after distress calls and that efforts were underway to track the attackers. Daily Post reported that the command rejected claims of a higher casualty figure and insisted that two people died.

The shootings have added to concern over cult-related violence in Awka. Police asked members of the public to help with information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.
