Rivers Police Probe Attack On Finima Monarch’s Palace
Police in Rivers State have opened an investigation after gunmen attacked the palace of the Amadabo of Finima Community in Bonny Local Government Area during a cultural masquerade display.
The traditional ruler, HRH Dagogo Brown, narrowly escaped death in the Saturday attack. The assailants reportedly fired shots around the palace, destroyed property and injured several residents. Punch said the violence followed a dispute over cultural rites and masquerade displays in the community.
Rivers police spokesperson ASP Blessing Agabe said normalcy had been restored and one suspected member of the gang had been arrested. She said the suspect was giving useful information while police continued efforts to find others linked to the attack.
Bonny council chairman Abinye Pepple condemned the violence and appealed to residents who fled the area to return home calmly. He said security operatives had been deployed to protect lives and property in Finima.
Finima sits on Bonny Island, an area that hosts major national energy assets including Nigeria LNG facilities and the Bonny crude oil export terminal.
