Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have disrupted a suspected kidnappers’ roadblock in Benue State, killing one suspect and arresting two others in a separate operation.

The task force said soldiers acted on intelligence on August 19 and moved to the Jortar-Atume axis, where suspected kidnappers were accused of running an illegal checkpoint.

Reports citing the acting media information officer of the task force, Ahmad Zubairu, said troops met the suspects at the scene and exchanged fire with them. One suspect, identified only by the nickname “Cool Nigga”, was killed, while others fled and abandoned a motorcycle.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops deployed in Logo Local Government Area arrested Terhile Iyo, 44, and Vershima Emmanuel, 32, at Gou village.

The military said the two suspects admitted they were attempting to kidnap a farmer in the area. The task force said both men were being held for further investigation.

The operations were reported as part of continuing security action against kidnapping and banditry in parts of Benue.
