A woman and her three children have died after a fire destroyed the Rugar Audu Badali settlement in Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The fire broke out at about 5pm on Friday, August 21, according to reports that cited the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency. The victims were identified as Bilkisu, wife of Mallam Bukar, and her three children, Zainab, Hafsat and Salamatu.

The victims were buried according to Islamic rites. Surviving members of the household were left without shelter after the fire destroyed their home and belongings.

YOSEMA said its team visited the community with officials of Karasuwa Local Government and local leaders to assess the damage and identify urgent needs. The agency said the affected family needed emergency relief materials, temporary shelter and psychosocial support.

The agency also appealed to communities and relevant authorities to strengthen fire-prevention measures to reduce the risk of similar disasters in the state.
