Ndume Asks Military To Rescue Borno Abduction Victims After 100 Days

Senator Mohammed Ndume has asked the military to intensify efforts to rescue schoolchildren, travellers and other victims abducted from communities in Southern Borno, after some families passed more than 100 days without their relatives.

The appeal covers children taken from Mussa and Lassa in Askira Uba Local Government Area, passengers abducted around the Buratai axis and remaining victims from Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area.

Ndume made the request during a visit to the Theatre Command of the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, in Maiduguri on Wednesday. The Borno South senator commended troops for their work against insurgency but said the victims had stayed too long in captivity.

Punch reported that Ndume said the affected families were still waiting for the return of their children and relatives. Vanguard also reported the same appeal and said the theatre command assured him that efforts were continuing to rescue abducted persons and stabilise communities in the area.

Vanguard reported that the Army also disclosed plans to recruit about 1,000 youths from Southern Borno, especially from Gwoza, as part of efforts to improve security presence and support local intelligence in communities affected by insurgency.

The latest appeal keeps attention on rural Borno communities where abductions, attacks on travellers and school raids continue to test security operations despite repeated military deployments in the North East.
