Ebonyi Elder Killed After APGA Endorsement Meeting
An elderly man has been killed in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State after attending an All Progressives Grand Alliance endorsement meeting in his community.
The victim, identified in the reports as Amos Onwe Ubochi, was said to have left a political consultation in Osege village, Umuogodo Oshia Ngbo, on Monday, August 17, 2026. His body was found the following day along a bush path and near a stream, according to the accounts.
Police in Ebonyi confirmed that Ubochi left home on August 17 and did not return. The command said officers visited the scene after receiving information on August 18, evacuated the body to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki and began an investigation.
Vanguard reported that Ubochi had joined other elders at the meeting where APGA candidates were endorsed, including Tochukwu Ogalagu for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency. Punch also reported that he had led elders in prayers before leaving the gathering.
The killing has added tension to the local political atmosphere because it happened shortly after the endorsement meeting, but the police have not named any suspect or established a motive.
Ogalagu condemned the killing and called for the people responsible to be found and prosecuted. The police urged anyone with useful information to assist the investigation.
