Stacks of seized drug packages prepared for NDLEA destruction in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has destroyed a large cache of seized and abandoned illicit drugs in Lagos, with the value put above N301bn.

Daily Post, citing the agency’s statement, reported that 329,865.585kg of assorted illicit substances were destroyed at Navy Town, Ojo, after orders from the Federal High Court in Lagos. Premium Times also reported the public destruction exercise and put the value at N301bn.

The destroyed drugs were from concluded uncontested cases and abandoned consignments already taken out of circulation. Daily Post listed cannabis, cocaine, heroin, tramadol and other psychotropic substances among the items destroyed.

NDLEA chairman Buba Marwa oversaw the exercise. Daily Post gave the street value as N301.058bn, while its headline used N329bn; the body of the report and Premium Times both supported the N301bn figure.
