Police Arrest 19-Year-Old Woman Over Alleged Newborn Theft In Kebbi
Police in Kebbi State have arrested a 19-year-old woman, Khadija Ibrahim, over the alleged theft of a newborn baby in Zuru Local Government Area.
The police said the suspect allegedly took the child after pretending to help the baby’s mother, Fatima Muhammad, fetch hot water shortly after childbirth. Premium Times reported that the baby was later presented to the suspect’s husband as her own.
The command’s spokesperson, Bashir Usman, confirmed the arrest in a statement. Daily Trust reported that the suspect was from Rikoto village and that police linked the allegation to pressure over not having a child of her own.
The case remains an allegation at this stage. Police said the child had been recovered, while the suspect was taken into custody for further investigation.
