Five Farmers Feared Dead After Canoe Capsizes In Niger
Five farmers are feared dead after a canoe carrying them to farmland capsized on River Kuji in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency said the victims, four men and one woman, had left Shaba Woshi village on Saturday, August 15, 2026, before boarding the canoe to cross the river.
Abdullahi Baba-Arah, the agency’s director-general, said the farmers were heading to their farmland when the canoe capsized. He said the community had been thrown into mourning as officials continued to check the circumstances of the accident and the fate of the victims.
The report did not give the names of the missing farmers. It also did not say whether any passenger had been rescued.
