Army Reviews Sokoto-Kebbi Security After Lakurawa Threat

The Nigerian Army has reviewed security around Kebbe in Sokoto State after renewed threats linked to the Lakurawa group along the Sokoto-Kebbi border.

Major General Bemgba Koughna, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, visited the Forward Operating Base in Kebbe and nearby communities after reports of a renewed attack on Ungushi community.

The visit followed the Kebbe attack previously reported here, in which police confirmed an attack while the army did not confirm some casualty claims in circulation.

During the latest visit, Koughna met community leaders and residents, reviewed the security situation and said troops had adjusted their deployment to prevent further infiltration.

Reports said some residents had fled affected communities after attacks and livestock rustling around the border area. The army said troops remained deployed and alert, and that it would respond to new threats before they spread.
