Army Repels ISWAP Attack On Borno Base, Recovers Weapons
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai repelled an attempted ISWAP attack on Forward Operating Base Mandara Girau in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State in the early hours of Saturday.
Punch and Daily Post reported that the attack began around 2am when the insurgents advanced from two directions. The military said surveillance systems detected the movement and troops deployed a combat team to intercept one group.
The military account said the first group was defeated after a heavy exchange of fire, while a second group that tried to bypass the troops and enter the base was also forced back.
After the attackers withdrew, troops pursued them and searched the contact area and withdrawal routes. The military said several terrorists were neutralised, while surveillance footage showed some attackers dragging bodies towards the Timbuktu Triangle.
The reports said troops recovered AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, bombs, chargers, a camcorder and other equipment. The military said no soldier was killed or injured in the attack.
