Taraba University ASUU Gives Government 14 Days To Meet Demands

Lecturers at Taraba State University have given the state government 14 days to meet outstanding demands or face industrial action, raising the risk of another disruption at the Jalingo institution.

The ultimatum was issued by the Taraba State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities after a congress resolution on Thursday, August 13. The branch said the notice runs from August 13 to August 26, 2026.

ASUU-TSU chairman, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, said the union wants the Taraba State Government, Governor Agbu Kefas, the university’s Governing Council and management to implement pending agreements and clear financial entitlements owed to lecturers.

The union’s demands include the full implementation of applicable provisions of the ASUU-Federal Government 2025 Agreement and payment of arrears and other financial entitlements from January 2026 to date.

The branch said the notice was not a call for another round of talks, but a demand for action on issues it said had already been communicated to the university authorities, the Governing Council and the state government.

Mbave said lecturers had shown restraint in the interest of stable academic activities, but warned that the delay should not be taken as acceptance of unpaid entitlements or abandoned agreements.

The union asked the government and university authorities to treat the matter as urgent and act within the ultimatum period to avoid a shutdown of academic work at the university.
