Gombe ASUU Gives Government 14 Days To Settle Demands

The Gombe State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has given the Gombe State Government 14 days to address unpaid allowances, wage awards and other demands or face an indefinite strike.

The ultimatum followed a branch congress after a visit by ASUU’s National Executive Council. If the dispute is not resolved, the union says the strike will begin on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Daily Trust reported that the branch is demanding payment of the 2021 to 2024 backlog of Earned Academic Allowance, arrears from the 25 per cent and 35 per cent wage awards, implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage and payment of N30,000 minimum wage arrears.

Punch reported that the union also listed postgraduate supervision allowance, teaching practice, industrial training, field trip and responsibility allowances among the unresolved issues. The branch said previous attempts to engage the government had not settled the dispute.

Vanguard placed Gombe State University among 20 universities where ASUU said branches had been directed to prepare for strike action over alleged non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and related state-level obligations.
