10 Police Officers, 17 Suspected Bandits Killed In Kebbi Clash

Ten police officers, two civilians and 17 suspected bandits have been killed after armed men moving from Zamfara State toward Kebbi State clashed with security personnel.

Daily Post placed the encounter around Rafin Makuku in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State. Daily Trust used a Zamfara headline, but its report also said the clash happened around the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba after the armed group moved from Zamfara into Kebbi.

Both reports said the armed group was estimated by residents at about 240 men travelling on more than 200 motorcycles. The reports traced the movement to the Sangeko Gap area of Dansadau District in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

A resident named Musa Sani told the outlets that the attackers moved in groups, spent the night in a forest between Kakihum and Makuku, and headed toward Maburya on Monday morning. He alleged that they overpowered a mobile police checkpoint and took rifles from the officers.

The accounts said police later launched a reinforcement operation, killing 17 suspected bandits. Security authorities had not issued a fuller public breakdown beyond the figures carried in the reports at the time of publication.
