Police Arrest 23 Foreign Nationals Over Alleged Ponzi, Visa Scam In Ogun
Police in Ogun State have arrested 23 foreign nationals during a raid linked to an alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam and other immigration-related offences in the Ota area.
The suspects were arrested on August 4 at about 11am after officers from the Atan-Ota Division raided a gated residential building within an estate off Iyana Iyesi, Onipanu-Ota.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the raid followed intelligence about suspected fraudulent activity at the location. Police said the premises were secured and the suspects were taken in for investigation.
Twenty-one of the suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service on August 5 for immigration-related investigation and further action.
Police said two other suspects remained with the command for possible prosecution over alleged obtaining by false pretence and related offences, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
The command said investigators were still working to establish the full circumstances of the alleged scheme and identify any other people connected to it. Daily Post also reported that a Malian international passport bearing the name Diakite Alfousseini was recovered during the operation.
