NCoS Removes Three Ibara Prison Officials After Inmate’s TikTok Live

The Nigerian Correctional Service has removed the officer in charge of the Ibara Medium Custodial Centre in Abeokuta and two other senior officers after a death-row inmate allegedly went live on TikTok from custody.

The service said the move was ordered by the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, to allow a transparent investigation into the security breach.

The inmate was identified in the reports as Elijah Oyebode, who was sentenced to death in 2019 after an Osun State High Court convicted him over the murder of Rofiat Adebisi, a final-year student of Osun State University.

NCoS spokesperson Jane Osuji said preliminary findings showed the inmate had a prohibited mobile phone, which has now been recovered and secured as an exhibit.

The inmate has been transferred to another facility while the service investigates how the phone got into custody and whether any staff member helped him access social media.
