Customs Intercepts Rifle Parts, Cannabis Products at Tin Can Port

Nigeria Customs Service officials have intercepted concealed parts of pump-action rifles at Tin Can Island Port in Lagos and arrested two suspects linked to the shipment.

The container was flagged after arriving aboard MV VELIKA on July 8. Customs said a search found knocked-down rifle components, with 140 rifles already assembled and further components still being examined.

One suspect was arrested on July 31 at a bonded terminal while allegedly trying to facilitate the container’s clearance. Investigators said documentary, financial and telecommunications records linked him to the shipment. Another key suspect remains at large.

Customs also seized cannabis-infused products in two 40-foot containers. The items, which included pre-roll cookies, gummies and other cookies, were valued at ₦373.8 million.

Officials said investigations are continuing into the weapons and narcotics seizures.
