FG Promises To Pay Outstanding N35,000 Wage Award Before Mid-August

The Federal Government says it will begin paying the outstanding N35,000 wage award owed to federal civil servants before the middle of August.

The assurance followed pressure from labour leaders over unpaid wage awards, promotion arrears and other salary-related issues. Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele gave the pledge during a meeting with leaders of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Trade Side.

Punch reported that the government said the release for the wage award was at the final stage, while outstanding promotion arrears were also being processed. Vanguard reported that the outstanding two-month wage award is to be paid on or before August 15, 2026.

Daily Post and Premium Times also reported the Finance Ministry statement, which said Oyedele told labour leaders that the government had already begun addressing several of their concerns before receiving the council’s formal communication.

The meeting helped ease a possible confrontation after the council had warned the ministry over unresolved welfare issues. The government still has to show that the payment timeline will hold, especially for workers who have waited months for the arrears.
