Rivers Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Killing Of Two Officers
Rivers police have arrested three suspects over the killing of two officers who were attacked during a stop-and-search operation in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The command said the attack happened on June 29, 2026, when armed men opened fire on the officers and took away their service AK-47 rifles. One officer later died after a leg injury that led to amputation, while the command said two officers were killed in the incident.
Police spokesperson Blessing Agabe said the arrests followed an order by Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju for investigators to track the attackers and recover the stolen weapons.
The command said operatives of its Violence Crime Response Unit used intelligence-led operations to trace the suspects to their hideout. Reports from the same police statement said stolen rifles were recovered during the operation.
The suspects are expected to face further investigation as the command continues efforts to recover weapons and identify other people linked to the attack.
