The National Youth Service Corps says prospective corps members must obtain National Electronic Registration Database clearance before they can be mobilised for service.

The scheme gave the warning in a public notice posted on its official X account on Monday, telling graduates to complete the clearance early to avoid delays.

Punch and Vanguard both reported that the NYSC described the clearance as compulsory for all prospective corps members. The notice said those who fail to get the clearance should not expect mobilisation into the national service programme.

The agency did not give detailed steps for the clearance process in the notice quoted by the outlets. The directive comes as the scheme prepares for the 2026 Batch B mobilisation and after a separate safety advisory warning prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night.

The new requirement adds another verification step for graduates seeking national service placement. It also puts schools and eligible graduates under pressure to complete their documents before mobilisation closes.
