Gunmen have killed Letam Kine, a former chief security officer of Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State, in Bori.

The attack happened on Sunday evening along Polytechnic Road in Bori, the headquarters of Khana LGA. Reports said the shooting caused panic in the area, with residents and shop owners fleeing or closing their businesses after gunshots were heard.

Kine, also known as Langa, was shot by yet-to-be-identified attackers who fled before security operatives arrived. Residents cited in the reports suspected the attackers were linked to cult violence, but police had not announced any arrests.

Khana council chairman Thomas Bariere condemned the killing and called on security agencies to intensify operations across the area. His statement linked the latest attack to earlier violence in nearby communities and urged residents to stay calm while sharing credible information with security agencies.

Bori hosts the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, and the killing left students and other residents worried about safety around the town. The reports said normal activity had partly resumed on Monday, though fear remained after the Sunday night attack.
