Police in Rivers State have arrested two suspected members of a one-chance robbery syndicate after a passenger was allegedly robbed inside a minibus in the Rumuosi area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The suspects were named as Uche Samuel, 45, from Omunato Local Government Area of Imo State, and Nkechi Amadi, 42, from Nekede, also in Imo State. Police said they confessed during investigation, while officers were still searching for other members of the gang.

The case began after a woman boarded a minibus in Rumuosi and was allegedly attacked by the occupants. People nearby reportedly heard her shouting, chased the vehicle and stopped it after the driver got stuck. Police later arrived, rescued the suspects from a mob and took them to the station.

The Rivers State Police Command said the arrests followed a directive by Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju for officers to intensify action against one-chance operators and other violent criminals in the state.

Police spokesperson Blessing Agabe said the command would continue using intelligence-led operations to identify and arrest suspects involved in violent crime. Residents were also urged to report useful information to the police.
