Peter Obi Urges Full Probe After Enugu Air Runway Excursion

Peter Obi has asked aviation regulators to investigate the Enugu Air runway excursion at Benin Airport and make their findings public.

The call follows the runway incident involving an Enugu Air aircraft during landing in Benin. NaijaTrend earlier reported here that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau had opened an inquiry after the aircraft skidded off the runway.

Obi said he was relieved that all 68 passengers and crew members left the aircraft safely, with no injuries or deaths reported. He also praised the pilot, crew and airport emergency responders for their handling of the situation.

The former Anambra State governor said the incident should be used to strengthen aviation safety, aircraft maintenance, airport infrastructure and operating standards across the country.

He urged the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the NSIB to conduct what he called a thorough, transparent and timely investigation into the root cause of the incident.

Obi also said lessons from the incident should help rebuild public confidence in Nigeria’s aviation system and improve safety for travellers.

The earlier NSIB account said the aircraft, an Embraer E170 with registration 5N-ENR, was operating Flight 4264 from Lagos to Benin when it overran the end of Runway 05 during landing. Officials said the aircraft had 63 passengers and five crew members on board.
