The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has begun nationwide enforcement against alcoholic drinks sold in sachets and PET bottles below 200 millilitres.

Vanguard reported that the operation is taking place across the six geopolitical zones following the closure of manufacturing facilities found to be producing the banned products.

NAFDAC teams are visiting markets, motor parks, retail outlets, bars and supermarkets to identify and remove the drinks. The agency said people found producing, importing, distributing, transporting, stocking or selling the prohibited products risk sanctions and prosecution.

Director-General Christianah Adeyeye said manufacturers, distributors, retailers and transporters should surrender remaining stock. NAFDAC said the action is part of a continuing enforcement and public-awareness campaign, not a one-day exercise.
