Nigeria has slipped to 90th place on the latest Henley Passport Index, while the Nigerian passport still gives visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 44 destinations.

The July 2026 ranking, released by Henley & Partners, placed Nigeria 90th out of 199 passports assessed worldwide. Punch reported that the country dropped one place from 89th in the April 2026 edition, while its visa-free score stayed at 44.

Vanguard reported that Nigeria ranked 45th in Africa. South Africa remained the continent’s strongest passport at 49th globally, followed by countries including Botswana, Morocco, Kenya and Ghana.

Globally, Singapore kept first place with access to 192 destinations. Japan ranked second with 188, while South Korea and the United Arab Emirates shared third place with 187.

The Henley Passport Index ranks passports by the number of destinations their holders can enter without obtaining a visa in advance. The firm says it uses data from the International Air Transport Association.
