The ICPC has filed criminal charges against Bello Abubakar, the doctor linked to Nasir El-Rufai’s disputed medical report, after the earlier arrest reported by NaijaTrend here.

Premium Times reported that the oncology consultant at the National Hospital, Abuja, is facing a four-count charge over allegations that he forged a medical report used to seek bail for the former Kaduna State governor on health grounds.

The charge accuses Abubakar of issuing a false medical report titled “Medical Report and Expert Opinion for Urgent Medical Intervention,” dated June 10, 2026. Prosecutors say the document was presented to a Commissioner for Oaths in Kaduna before being filed in court.

Daily Post also reported that the ICPC filed the case against Abubakar over alleged forgery, abuse of office and providing false information in connection with the report said to have supported El-Rufai’s bail application.

Premium Times reported that the National Hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Raji Mahmud, is expected to testify that the hospital did not authorise the report. The hospital allegedly found no matching record for El-Rufai after checking its electronic medical records using variations of his name.

Abubakar’s account, according to the report, is that El-Rufai had been registered as a patient since 2005 and that he had consulted for him several times, including while the former governor was in ICPC detention. The allegations are now before the court.
