Court Jails Self-Acclaimed Prophet For Defrauding Church Members Of N136m
A state high court in Enugu State has sentenced a self-acclaimed prophet, Godwin Ajuluchukwucheya, to one year in prison for defrauding church members of N136.4 million.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission prosecuted Ajuluchukwucheya, who is also known as Prophet Sunday Koboko, on charges of obtaining by false pretence and stealing.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the case centred on claims that Ajuluchukwucheya told church members he had won N30 billion in a lotto game and asked them to contribute money so they could receive dividends.
The commission said the offences occurred between 2023 and February 2025 in Enugu.
Ajuluchukwucheya pleaded guilty after the charges were read to him before Justice H. O. Eya. The court sentenced him to one year in prison with an option of a N500,000 fine.
The court also ordered that a landed property linked to the convict be forfeited to the Federal Government through the EFCC and sold so the proceeds can be used to compensate victims.
