Oyo Teacher Says Abductors Released Captives Before Soldiers Escorted Them Home

One of the teachers freed after the Oyo school abduction has said the captives were released by their abductors before soldiers eventually escorted them home.

Zacchaeus Olatunde, one of the teachers taken from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, gave the account while recounting the 56 days spent in captivity.

Olatunde said the captives were kept blindfolded for much of the period and could not tell where they had been taken. He said the abductors spoke Hausa, Nupe, English and Yoruba, and claimed they were members of ISWAP.

In a separate account, he recalled that the attack began after pupils shouted that bandits had entered the school premises. He said the gunmen stormed Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School during school activities.

Olatunde said he was the last person captured and also one of the last to be released. He said the experience left the captives uncertain about whether government and security agencies still knew where they were.
