Police Back PCRC Plan To Mobilise 10,000 Volunteers For Safe Schools

The Nigeria Police Force has backed a Police Community Relations Committee plan to mobilise 10,000 volunteers for school security across the country.

The plan is part of the PCRC’s Safe Schools Initiative, which the committee says will support protection around schools, especially in remote and vulnerable communities.

Force Public Relations Officer CSP Aniete Okokon Iniedu, who represented the Inspector-General of Police during a visit to the PCRC National Secretariat in Abuja, said the police would support the initiative and other community policing programmes.

PCRC National President Mogaji Olaniyan said the committee was expanding the programme after engagements with parent-teacher associations and community leaders. Punch reported that the committee also plans to support CCTV installation in schools.

The police praised the committee’s work on police-community relations and said the Safe Schools Initiative fits the force’s push to create safer conditions for teaching and learning.
