Gombe Assembly Site Collapse Kills One, Injures Seven
One worker has died and seven others have been injured after part of the entrance canopy at the new Gombe State House of Assembly complex collapsed during construction.
The Gombe State Government said the incident happened on Friday at the project site and affected a section of the cantilevered entrance canopy that was still under construction.
Danladi Adamu, permanent secretary of the state Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, said five of the injured workers were taken to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, while two others were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya ordered that the injured workers should receive medical treatment at the government’s expense. He also directed the ministry and relevant emergency, regulatory and technical agencies to begin safety and accountability checks.
The contractor and supervising consultant were asked to submit a formal incident report within 24 hours, followed by a preliminary investigation report and a full technical report with findings and recommendations.
The government said further action would depend on the outcome of the investigation and applicable safety and engineering standards.
