Defence Minister Orders Troops To Act Immediately Against Terrorists
Defence Minister Christopher Musa has told soldiers and other security personnel deployed against bandits and terrorists to act immediately when they encounter armed attackers, rather than waiting for fresh clearance from superior officers.
Musa gave the directive in Sokoto on Wednesday while commissioning 62 operational vehicles and security equipment bought by the Sokoto State Government for security operations across the state.
He said the new equipment cost N27.1bn and warned personnel handling it to maintain it properly. According to the reports, the minister said anyone deployed against bandits or terrorists should not wait for another order before responding to an attack.
The minister also said the Federal Government would return after a year to check how the equipment was being used and maintained.
The Sokoto deployment comes as communities in parts of the North-West continue to face attacks, abductions and raids by armed groups.
