15 Dead, 17 Injured In Kwara Auto Crash
Fifteen people have died and 17 others were injured in an early morning crash on the Ogbomoso-Oko Olowo corridor of the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps said the crash happened around 2:32 a.m. on Monday near the Muslim Cemetery area at Oko-Olowo. It involved a lone DAF XF truck with registration number GWL 274 XC.
FRSC officials said 48 male occupants were in the truck. Fifteen died, 17 sustained injuries, and 16 escaped unhurt.
The corps linked the crash to driver fatigue. The injured victims were taken to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital with fractures, dislocations and bruises.
The bodies of the dead were released to their families through the Sarkin Hausawa of Oko-Olowo in Moro Local Government Area.
Daily Post reported that emergency responders reached the scene within five minutes after a distress call. The rescue involved FRSC personnel from the Oloru Unit Command and officers from the Kwara Sector Command.
The crash adds to a grim run of fatal road accidents on major Nigerian corridors, where night travel, fatigue and overloaded vehicles continue to cost lives.
