Security operatives at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau State, have repelled a fresh attack on the institution, killing one suspected assailant during an exchange of gunfire.

NaijaTrend earlier reported President Bola Tinubu’s order for permanent security reinforcement at NIPSS after a previous Kuru attack here.

The latest incident happened late on Wednesday, July 1, when armed assailants attempted to breach the institute’s security perimeter. NIPSS Head of Public Affairs, Dr Osime Samuel, said security personnel forced the attackers to retreat after a coordinated response.

Vanguard and Daily Trust reported that one suspected attacker was neutralised, while the institute said there was no breach of the perimeter and that participants, staff, residents and facilities remained safe.

Daily Post, citing security sources, reported that troops recovered a service rifle allegedly stolen from a soldier killed in an earlier attack. The outlet said patrols around the institute had been intensified to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.

NIPSS said security agencies had strengthened surveillance within and around the facility, and urged the public to disregard unverified reports capable of causing panic.
