Osun State University has reported an alleged invasion of students’ hostels by soldiers from the Army Depot in Osogbo.

Punch and Daily Post reported that the incident happened on Monday evening and involved soldiers who recently passed out from the Nigerian Army Depot, Osogbo.

The reports said male students were assaulted while female students alleged they were stripped and indecently touched during the raid.

Punch reported that more than 60 mobile phones and other electronic devices were seized during the incident. The outlet also noted that an alleged rape could not be immediately verified.

Daily Post reported that UNIOSUN’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Clement Adebooye, said the matter had been referred to military authorities after he visited affected hostels and met students.

The university’s spokesperson, Ademola Adesoji, said two students required hospital treatment after the incident.

Both outlets said the university described the incident as disturbing because the depot had been seen as part of the security cover around the campus community.
