ABUAD Ranked Nigeria’s Top University In Global Sustainability Ranking
Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, has been ranked as Nigeria’s highest-placed institution in the 2026 Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings.
Vanguard and Punch reported that ABUAD placed 72nd globally out of 1,646 universities from 116 countries and territories. The ranking made the Ekiti-based private university the only Nigerian institution in the global top 100.
The university recorded an overall score of 90.8, with strong marks in areas including Climate Action, No Poverty, and Affordable and Clean Energy.
ABUAD also ranked second in Africa, behind the University of Johannesburg in South Africa, which placed 39th globally.
Other Nigerian institutions were placed lower in the table. Covenant University and Redeemer’s University were listed within the 201-300 band, while Landmark University was placed in the 301-400 category.
The University of Lagos appeared in the 601-800 band, while the American University of Nigeria and Lagos State University were listed between 801 and 1000 globally.
The Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings assess universities against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty reduction, quality education, climate action, clean energy and partnerships for development.
Globally, the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom retained first place, while Griffith University in Australia ranked second, according to Punch.
