Ogun Police Kill Two Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Victim
The Ogun State Police Command says its anti-kidnapping unit has rescued an abducted victim and killed two suspected kidnappers during a follow-up operation in the state.
Daily Post and Premium Times reported that the victim was abducted on June 11 at Ogbe Village in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. Both outlets cited the command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in reports published on Wednesday.
According to the police account, the command activated its anti-kidnapping unit after the abduction was reported. Operatives used intelligence and surveillance to pressure the gang until the victim was released unharmed on June 18.
Police said the follow-up operation later led officers to the gang’s hideout. The suspects allegedly opened fire when they saw the operatives, and two of them were killed in the exchange.
The command said other gang members escaped with gunshot wounds. It listed the recovered items as a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, N2.2 million and other exhibits linked to the case.
Babaseyi said the police were still pursuing the fleeing suspects. He urged hospitals and traditional healers to report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.
The case adds to a series of kidnapping and armed-crime operations reported by police commands across the southwest in recent weeks.
