The Inspector General of Police has banned police officers from creating content on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube while in uniform.

Premium Times reported that IGP Olatunji Disu issued the directive in a circular dated Monday, warning that violations would attract dismissal, demotion, salary forfeiture and prosecution.

The circular stated that the Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined institution whose effectiveness depends on public trust, and that officers who create social media content in uniform undermine the professional image of the force.

Commissioners of Police are required to disseminate the directive within seven days and submit compliance reports within 14 days.

The ban echoes a similar policy issued in 2020 by then-IGP Mohammed Adamu, which also prohibited officers from posting content in uniform.
