Fresh reports from Plateau State say gunmen attacked Kawel village in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area, killing residents, health workers and security personnel.

Daily Trust reported that at least 22 people were killed in the Sunday night attack, citing Bokkos youth leader Christopher Luka and emergency responders involved in the evacuation.

Daily Post reported higher community estimates, saying the death toll had risen above 30, but also carried a police statement that confirmed 20 deaths after two injured victims later died in hospital.

Because the figures differ, the safest confirmed position is that police reported 20 deaths while community and local sources gave higher counts of 22 and above 30.

Daily Trust said the attackers also targeted a primary healthcare centre, where health workers on duty and some patients were killed. Several residents were injured and some houses and food stores were destroyed or set ablaze.

The Plateau State Government condemned the attack and said Governor Caleb Mutfwang had directed security agencies to intensify operations and track down the perpetrators.
