Troops Rescue 47 ISWAP Captives In Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 47 people, most of them women and children, from an ISWAP enclave in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Joint Task Force North East said the victims regained their freedom on June 20 after sustained ground and air operations forced the terrorists to abandon their positions in the Lake Chad area.
Channels TV and Punch both reported that the operation was announced by the theatre command’s acting military information officer, Captain Mohammed Musa, also identified by Punch as Captain Mohammed Goni.
The military said the rescued persons are receiving medical attention and humanitarian support at a secure location before reintegration.
The command said the pressure on ISWAP camps would continue as troops try to weaken the group’s networks around the North East.
Borno has remained one of the states most affected by Boko Haram and ISWAP violence, with repeated abductions, displacement and attacks on communities around the Lake Chad basin.
