The Kebbi State Police Command, working with other security agencies, has killed a suspected kidnap kingpin identified as Jiji Mujugu during an operation in Bagudo Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, one of the suspects earlier arrested led security operatives to the gang leader’s hideout.

Usman said Mujugu opened fire on the operatives while trying to escape, and they returned fire, killing him. Another gang member, Bube Tukur, was arrested at the hideout.

Investigations revealed that Mujugu and Tukur belonged to an eight-member gang that had been terrorising communities in the area, including Geza, Adawa, Matsinkai, Sharabi, Illela, Suru and Dakin Gari in Bagudo Local Government Area and its surroundings.

The gang was responsible for the abduction of a resident, Alhaji Abu Geza, from Geza Village. During the operation, police found one locally fabricated pistol and a live cartridge on a gang member. The victim, Alhaji Abu Geza, was rescued from the suspects’ hideout.

The Kebbi State Police Command vowed to continue going after criminal elements and urged residents to keep providing intelligence to support ongoing operations.

Kidnapping for ransom remains a serious problem across northern Nigeria, with criminal gangs targeting rural communities and farmlands.
