Bandits Kill 20 in Fresh Attack on Kebbi Community

At least 20 people have been reported killed after suspected bandits attacked Fesken Rafi community in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Punch and Daily Post reported the death toll from the attack, while New Telegraph confirmed the state government’s condolence visit to the affected community after the incident.

A delegation led by Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida visited the area on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris. The delegation met local leaders and residents, with the state government promising to strengthen security presence and provide more support to help restore normalcy.

Arewa Local Government Chairman Sani Aliyu Tela and other local leaders described the attack as a painful blow to the community. Traditional leaders also appealed for better road access linking Fesken Rafi to the main highway, saying improved access would help security response and local economic activity.

The attack is the latest sign of the security pressure facing communities in parts of Kebbi and neighbouring North-West states, where bandit gangs have repeatedly targeted villages, roads and farming settlements.

Security agencies had not released a full operational account of the attack in the initial reports. The state government’s pledge to deploy more personnel will now be watched by residents who fear further raids if the area remains exposed.

For farming communities, repeated attacks also disrupt planting, markets and travel, leaving survivors to deal with both the immediate loss of life and the longer task of rebuilding local confidence and safety.
