Families Seek Rescue of 13 Abducted Borno Travellers After 60 Days

Families of 13 abducted travellers in Borno State have appealed for urgent rescue action, 60 days after the victims were reportedly taken by suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram insurgents.

Daily Post reported that the passengers were abducted on April 15, 2026, after two station wagon vehicles were ambushed along the Biu–Buratai–Kamuya road. The victims were allegedly taken into the bush after the attack.

According to the report, the families remain in distress despite recent rescue operations in Borno that secured the release of other abducted persons. They said there has been no confirmed information on the whereabouts or condition of the 13 travellers.

Among those listed by the families are a nursing mother travelling with her seven-month-old baby, young graduates heading to Maiduguri for National Youth Service Corps processing, a married couple from Hawul and other passengers.

The relatives said the silence around the case has deepened their trauma, especially as they continue to hear of other rescue operations in the state. They appealed to security agencies and government authorities not to allow the case to fade from public attention.

Vanguard also reported the families’ appeal, describing the case as a continuing ordeal along the Biu-Damaturu corridor. The route has remained a sensitive security axis because of repeated attacks and ambushes linked to insurgent activity in parts of Borno.

The families are asking for renewed search and rescue efforts, clearer communication and stronger protection for commuters using affected roads. Their appeal keeps attention on travellers who remain missing long after the initial attack.
