Troops Rescue Three Kidnapped Victims, Kill Terrorists in Zamfara Operations
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued three kidnapped victims and killed terrorists during separate operations in Zamfara State.
Daily Post reported that the operations took place in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas on June 12. Vanguard also carried the development from the military statement, reporting that troops neutralised terrorists and recovered weapons during the operations.
According to the military statement cited by Daily Post, troops on a fighting patrol around Birnin Saba, Yanbuki and Sabon Garin Daudawa in Zurmi LGA engaged terrorists in Yanbuki District, killing one of them. The troops recovered rifles, loaded magazines, motorcycles, mobile phones, MP3 players and camouflage items from the scene.
The soldiers later moved to Sabon Garin Daudawa, where the terrorists reportedly abandoned their camp and fled before the troops arrived. The camp was cleared and destroyed.
In a separate operation along the Shinkafi-Moriki axis, troops ambushed suspected terrorists and killed another suspect. Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles and assorted charms.
The military said three kidnapped victims were rescued during the operations. They are receiving care while arrangements are being made to reunite them with their families.
The operation is the latest in a series of military actions in the North-West, where troops have been targeting armed groups involved in kidnapping, cattle rustling and attacks on rural communities.
