DSS Intercepts Arms Shipment Bound for Zamfara Bandit Kingpin
Operatives of the Department of State Services have arrested a suspected arms courier in Kano State over an alleged weapons movement linked to a bandit kingpin operating in Zamfara.
Daily Post, citing an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, said the suspect was arrested on Friday in Gezawa Local Government Area after intelligence on the movement of arms. Vanguard also reported the interception, describing it as a seizure of weapons allegedly meant for criminal elements in the North-West.
According to the reports, the suspect was allegedly moving weapons from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State to Funtua in Katsina State for onward delivery. Items listed as recovered include three AK-47 rifles, four rocket-propelled grenade tubes and warheads, and two empty magazines.
The report also said the suspect allegedly confessed that he was contracted to transport the weapons and was promised N450,000 if the delivery succeeded. Investigators are now working to identify the network behind the movement and any collaborators linked to the consignment.
The DSS operation comes during sustained security pressure on the supply lines used by bandit groups in Zamfara and neighbouring states. Arms couriers and logistics handlers are a key part of the violence because they help armed groups maintain attacks, kidnappings and raids on communities.
Security officials described the arrest as part of wider intelligence-led operations to disrupt criminal networks across the North-West. The suspect remains in DSS custody while further investigation and possible prosecution are being prepared.
