FG Arraigns Five Men for Terrorism, Attempted Supply of Smuggled Arms to Boko Haram
The Federal Government has arraigned five men on terrorism charges, accusing them of attempting to supply smuggled arms to Boko Haram.
Premium Times reported that the suspects were charged before a Federal High Court on terrorism offences linked to the supply of smuggled weapons to the insurgent group. The case marks a fresh prosecution move against arms trafficking networks feeding the Boko Haram insurgency in the Lake Chad region.
According to the report, the charges include offences under the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, which covers acts of terrorism, financing of terrorism, and unlawful dealings in arms and ammunition.
Counter-prosecutors have continued a string of high-profile terrorism cases in the past year, with the Office of the National Security Adviser’s Special Prosecution Team driving several of the arraignments. The cases are part of a wider effort to break the supply lines that have kept Boko Haram operational.
For Nigerians watching the fight against insurgency, the arraignment is a reminder that breaking the rebels’ access to weapons is now treated as central to the broader counter-terrorism strategy.
