Nigerian fintech giant Interswitch has partnered with global banking software provider Temenos to take on Africa’s banking technology market, the company announced at the Temenos Community Forum 2026 in Copenhagen.

The deal positions Interswitch to provide core banking solutions across the continent, combining Temenos’s established platform with Interswitch’s deep knowledge of African financial services markets.

What the Deal Covers

Through the partnership, Interswitch will deploy Temenos’s full suite of banking solutions — core banking, digital banking, payments, wealth management, and financial crime compliance products. Interswitch Group Managing Director Mitchell Elegbe said the deal marks a significant milestone in the company’s mission to provide world-class banking technology infrastructure across Africa.

Interswitch currently operates in 32 African countries and supports more than 300 financial institutions. It’s behind some of the continent’s most recognised payment brands, including Quickteller and Verve.

The initial target markets are Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Kenya — four countries with a combined population of over 400 million people and a rapidly expanding middle class seeking digital banking services.

The deal could reshape how African banks source their core technology infrastructure, giving them a homegrown alternative to international providers.
