Senate Demands FG Action on Oyo Abductions as Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons Kidnapped in Ibadan
The Senate has passed a resolution demanding urgent federal intervention to rescue victims of abduction in Oyo State — this after gunmen kidnapped the sister of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu and her twin sons in Ibadan.
Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her twin boys, Peter and Paul, were taken at around 7:30 am on Wednesday in Ibadan’s Challenge area as they headed to school.
Senator Buhari described the attack as “a direct assault on the country’s future” and called on security agencies to intensify rescue efforts.
The resolution follows a wave of insecurity across multiple states. Bandits also abducted seven students of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda in Zamfara from their off-campus homes. One student escaped and confirmed that six others remain in captivity.
Nationwide Reactions
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened solidarity strikes. NLC President Joe Ajaero said: “We are heart-broken by the ugly pictures of our children, held and tortured by depraved bandits.”
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar weighed in, saying “kidnappers do not ask for party membership cards before striking” — a pointed response to claims that insecurity is being politicised along regional lines. Peter Obi also appealed to the kidnappers to release the victims unharmed.
Teachers in Danger
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has threatened a nationwide strike after two of its members were murdered in Oyo. NUT President Amba declared: “Two of our colleagues have been gruesomely murdered in cold blood. If people are not safe in their places of work, where then can they be safe?”
The abduction of Adelabu’s relatives marks a new turn in Oyo’s security crisis — kidnapping has now touched the political elite directly. The Senate resolution also covers broader insecurity in Kwara North and Zamfara.
