Nigeria has moved to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Israel in the areas of security, agriculture, and other strategic sectors, the Federal Government has announced.

The move, which signals a deepening of diplomatic relations between the two countries, comes as Nigeria seeks to leverage Israeli expertise and technology in addressing some of its most pressing challenges.

In the security domain, Nigeria is seeking Israeli support to enhance counter-terrorism and intelligence capabilities, building on existing cooperation in the fight against insurgency and banditry. Israel has long been recognised as a global leader in security technology and counter-terrorism operations.

On the agricultural front, the Federal Government is seeking Israeli support to strengthen the sector as part of broader food security initiatives. Israel’s advanced agricultural technologies, including drip irrigation, desert farming techniques, and water management systems, are highly relevant to Nigeria’s efforts to boost food production and reduce import dependence.

The cooperation also extends to education, with both countries exploring opportunities for academic exchanges and capacity-building programmes.

The initiative is part of Nigeria’s broader foreign policy strategy to diversify its international partnerships and attract investment and technical expertise from innovative economies.
